About

Who am I?

I'm Andrew Norton, and I am currently a third-year student at the University of Virginia working towards a Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science.  I would love to work as a theoretical computer scientist or as a mathematician.  That said, I also enjoy the more applied realms of programming.

My academic passions include mathematics, competitive programming, and robotics. I am an avid member of the Math.StackExchange community; you will find me answering questions primarily regarding calculus, linear algebra, and basic number theory.  With regards to competitive programming, I plan to participate on UVa's ACM ICPC team in the 2014-2015 academic year.  I will also attempt to participate in USACO competitions as an observer.  If you're interested in my robotic endeavors, please see my other website, www.RoboDesigners.com.  I have experience with the LEGO Mindstorms (NXT and EV3), VEX Robotics, and Arduino systems.

What is this blog about?

Two words: competitive programming!  When I began my competition programming "career" in my junior year of high school, there were few free articles or tutorials for new competitors.  I aim to fill this gap through my blog entries.  However, I do not want to limit my audience solely to novice competitors; I will also post some of the more advanced techniques that I learn and implement during my attempts at solving problems from the UVA Online Judge.

From time-to-time, I will also post "news" of interest to programmers; for example, when the ACM ICPC winners are announced, etc.

Can I suggest a post topic?

I will always welcome suggested blog entry topics. Deciding what to write about is always the hardest part for me.  If you have a particular topic you'd like to see explained, just leave a comment on any post.
